RLC OF TEXAS OPPOSES SILLY LICENSE PLATE FRAME LAW:

Dear Liberty-Lover,

Our legislature decided that we have too much freedom. They have
decided that the need to raise revenue with selectively-enforced
traffic laws is more important than your right to free speech using a
license plate frame. SB 439, effective September 1, 2003, outlawed
any license plate frame that covers any portion of the design or
lettering of a license plate (i.e. any part of the "Texas" name on
the plate). Depending on the specific style of license plate you
have, our frame may violate the new law. But if you joined or
renewed as a member in 2003, we sent you a license plate frame.

Rest assured that the RLC of Texas opposes silly laws such as
this one. With your support, we hope to replace some of the
legislators who consistently vote for more power for the powerful at
the expense of Texans.

COUNTDOWN TO THE TEXAS GOP 2004 SAN ANTONIO CONVENTION:

Texas RLC activists,

Take action now to become a precinct chair and make a difference in the
Texas Republican Party's future candidates and their legislation. This article,
below, will detail how to do that.

To become your Precinct Chair:

o First Step: Determine your precinct number by contacting your county
officials (unfortunately there is no easy web-based method). Go to this site
to determine who to contact in your county:

o Second Step: File to run. Go here for the form:
http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/forms/a2-1pm.pdf

o Third Step: Complete the form for your precinct and have a notary
endorse your oath that you will "support and defend the Constitution and
laws of the United States and of the State of Texas." When you win you
will be an office holder in the Republican Party, a place where you can make
more of a difference in defending the Constitution.

o Fourth Step: Submit the completed form, as detailed on the reverse side:
"The application shall be filed with the [Republican] county chair or the
secretary of the county executive committee, if there is one." The filing
deadline is January 2, 2004 to be on the primary election ballot of
March 9, 2004.

o Fifth Step: Run a campaign. Your County Chair will be your friend or foe,
depending on whether you are seen as a 'fresh talent' asset or a threat to
the old guard. Volunteer to serve as an election judge. If you will serve as
an election judge or other party worker bee, you should get party support.
For voter support, round up as many of your precinct neighbors as possible
and inform them of the place and date when they can vote for you. Most
people vote for personality, not issues, so if you are sincere and work the
process, you will likely get elected. Many precinct chair positions go
unfilled / uncontested.

o August 30, 2004 - Republican National Convention convenes in New York City
o September 2, 2004 - Republican National Convention adjourns
o October 18-29, 2004 - General Election Early voting by personal appearance
o November 2, 2004 - GENERAL ELECTION
