RLC OF TEXAS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR KNOCKS THE PATRIOT
ACT FOR ALL THE RIGHT REASONS:

September 16th, 2003
Austin, Texas --

RLC-Texas Executive Director Don Zimmerman was invited to
address the Austin American-Statesman editorial board to state
support for the City of Austin Resolution on the PATRIOT ACT
(voted on September 25th).

Zimmerman appeared with Jackie Goodman, Austin City Council
member sponsoring the resolution, and Jim Harrington, Director of
the Texas Civil Rights Project. Zimmerman stressed the importance
of the resolution, in contrast to the "anti-Iraq war" resolution, as
crucial because federal agents could conceivably force city
employees like librarians and police officers to violate citizens'
Constitutional liberties. He stressed the importance of affirming
defense of Constitutional liberties, since every elected official has
sworn an oath to do exactly that.

RLC-Texas members are urging support for the Constitution, even as
John Ashcroft tours the country to "invitation only" audiences
supporting the PATRIOT ACT.

TIP OF THE MONTH - GETTING MORE INVOLVED IN YOUR
LOCAL REPUBLICAN PARTY:

By Bill Zimmerman, Communications Director

As follow up to the Precinct Chair Campaign, here is the first part of
your "To Do" list for getting more involved in your local county GOP:

1. Determine your precinct number and your precinct chairman. To
determine precinct number, call your county clerk. Otherwise, your
local Republican Party office should be able to determine both your
precinct number and your precinct chair's name and phone, if you
have one.

2. To boost your support and success, consider volunteering to be
your precinct election judge for the March 2004 primary. As you
may know, the primary is a party event to determine official
candidates, and volunteers save party funds. An election judge
position is an excellent starting point for precinct chair, and the
party prefers these positions be the same person.

Precinct Chair filings began October 4.

Forms for filing for office, including precinct chair:
http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/forms/index.shtml

To find your incumbent representatives and senators:
http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/fyi/fyi.htm
(use the address selection for best results)

Apparently, there is no easy web access to precinct data. You just
need to call the local Party office or county clerk.

OUR PURPOSE:

After decades of New Deal and Great Society social activism ...
combined with the rapid decline in civics and American history
education in our government-run public schools ... mixed with a
growing population of ill-informed and apathetic voters ...
government at every level in this country continues to be too big,
too intrusive and too expensive.

Founded in 1990, the Republican Liberty Caucus of Texas works to
advance the principles of limited government, individual liberty and
free markets within the Republican Party and throughout Texas.
Our focus is on a broad range of issues, including education, taxation,
property rights, gun rights, free speech, federalism and the proper
role of government.

In addition to giving disenfranchised smaller-government Republicans
a home by creating incentive to stay in our party, the Republican
Liberty Caucus of Texas helps avoid a potential exodus to Libertarian,
Constitutional, and other third parties, which would end up weakening
our thin margin over the Democrats, thus opening the door to
big-government victories from leftist candidates. The Republican
Liberty Caucus of Texas is proud to promote the GOP's
smaller-government message. Our limited government, individual
liberty and free market ideas will win by inclusion. There is
strength in numbers.

While rolling back decades of government "nannyism" will require a
great deal of public education and grassroots lobbying, the most
important means of changing public policy is to change public officials.
Therefore, the Republican Liberty Caucus of Texas works to elect
pro-liberty Republicans to offices at all levels, partisan and
non-partisan, in both primary and general elections.

The Republican Liberty Caucus of Texas is committed not to just
electing more Republicans ... but better ones, as well.
