OUr
Texas Members Got involved In
pro-Liberty Republican campaigns, THANK YOU!
November, 2002 - Texas
As we near the end of 2002, we felt it was
important to give thanks to those special Republican Liberty Caucus
of Texas (RLC-TX) members that have come together and helped us
realize our most important goal as an organization, and that is to
continue to build a grass-roots network of Republicans that get
involved in pro-Liberty Republican Campaigns.
As we look back, we see that this election year was a good year
for Republicans. We gained seats in both the House and Senate
and in many states. Here in Texas we also made some gains.
Now for the question that concerns us most... how did pro-liberty
candidates do? Well, we at the Republican Liberty Caucus of
Texas had a few successes too! Our best success story was in
our very own Chairman's race! Jerry Patterson won his bid for
Texas Land Commissioner. Mr.
Jerry Patterson won 50% to 43% over David Bernsen.. We
had many members involved in the Patterson Campaign. We'd like
to personally thank Republican Liberty Caucus (RLC) members Mike
Cox, Tammi Kannar, Don Zimmerman, Stephanie Bridges, David Palmquist,
David Reed, Richard Relph, and John Reed for getting involved in the
Patterson Campaign. Every little bit of work counted and we
appreciate that these RLC members, stepped forward.
Then there was the Congressional Campaign of our mentor, hero, and
RLC endorsed candidate, Ron Paul. He also blew his competition
away! Ron Paul won by 69%! We'd like to thank every one
of our members that did their part to help Congressman Ron Paul.
We'd like to personally thank RLC members Mike Cox, Fran Caldwell,
Don Zimmerman, David Palmquist, John Reed, and Jared Patterson for
getting involved in the most important campaign in Texas!
RLC endorsed, Congressman John Culberson ran unopposed, but we can't
forget the help that RLC member Rob Booth has put into the
congressman's campaign in the past. Rob also helped John
Culberson in a fundraiser for other candidates: Shelly Moore Capito
(R-WV), Randy Forbes (R-VA),
and Rob Simmons (R-CT). Rob Booth also helped another
liberty-leaning candidate, Talmadge
Heflin, running for State Rep. District 149, and he helped
put on an event for John Carter (CD-31 Rep) in Katy. Rob
Booth has been a long time RLC member and has been a fine example to
all our members on how to be a good Republican patriot, fighting for
liberty and freedom in the trenches. Thank you Rob.
Sadly we did have losses, RLC endorsed, state Rep. Rick Green
lost by a narrow margin of 300 votes! This was a serious set
back since Rick was as close to a Ron Paul style Republican as they
come. We'd like to thank RLC members Jared Patterson and Mike
Cox for getting involved in Rick Green's Campaign. Our
second loss was, RLC endorsed, candidate Mike Hanson. He was
running for Travis County Commissioner, Pct. 4. We'd like to
thank RLC members Leah Lewis and Dustin Putz for getting involved in
the Hanson Campaign.
One of our favorite success stories is pro-liberty candidate Jack
Stick, running for State Rep., from Travis County. Jack is a
new candidate that beat his Democrat opponent. We'd like to
thank RLC members: Tammi Kannar and Don Zimmerman for getting
involved in the Jack Stick Campaign. A special thanks goes to
Tammi Kannar for putting so many hours in.
Mrs. Clara Beckett who was endorsed and supported by the Bastrop
County Republican Liberty Caucus took away another Democrat held
seat by defeating Johnny Shreoder by a sizable margin.
She now joins our very own, RLC endorsed, Don Loucks who was
the first Republican ever elected in Bastrop County.
Beckett faced former Democrat turned Republican Elaine Seidel
back in the march primary in which the RLC played a crucial role in
the Beckett win. Sarah
Loucks our other locally endorsed candidate ran a very strong race
for District Clerk and was defeated by less than 150 votes.
This just goes to show we still have a lot of work to do here
on the local level. We'd
like to thank RLC members: David Palmquist and Don Loucks.
Most of our pro-liberty candidates won, we should all be proud of
them and our fine members that helped support them. We'd like
to thank all of our members for their support, and we'd like to
encourage more of our members to get involved in RLC endorsed
campaigns in the next elections cycle. Just email us at The
Republican Liberty Caucus of Texas Head-Quarters (
hq1@rlctexas.org )
and we'll add you to the list of future volunteers for Texas
Candidates. We also encourage you to get involved in our
future RLC events, all members play a role in our candidate
endorsement process. Imagine what we can do next time.
There is strength in numbers!

Our Purpose:
After decades of New Deal and Great Society social activism ... combined with the rapid decline in civics and American history education in our government-run public schools ... mixed with a growing population of ill-informed and apathetic voters ...
government at every level in this country continues to be
too big, too intrusive and too expensive.
Founded in 1990, the Republican Liberty Caucus of
Texas works to advance the principles of limited government, individual
liberty and free markets within the Republican Party and throughout
Texas. Our focus is on a broad range of issues, including education, taxation, property
rights, gun rights, free speech, federalism and the proper role of government.
In
addition to giving disenfranchised smaller-government Republicans a home by
creating incentive to stay in our party, the Republican Liberty Caucus of
Texas helps avoid a potential exodus to Libertarian,
Constitutional, and other third parties, which would end up weakening our
thin margin over the Democrats, thus opening the door to big-government
victories from leftist candidates. The Republican Liberty Caucus
of
Texas is proud to promote the GOP's smaller-government message. Our limited government, individual
liberty and free market ideas will win by inclusion. There is
strength in numbers.
While rolling back decades of government "nannyism" will require a great deal of public education and grassroots lobbying, the most important means of changing public policy is to change public officials. Therefore, the
Republican Liberty Caucus of
Texas works to elect
pro-liberty Republicans to offices at all levels, partisan and non-partisan, in both primary and general
elections.
The Republican Liberty Caucus of
Texas is committed
not to just electing more Republicans ... but better ones, as well.
