Report Author: John Reed August 4, 2001 - Austin, Texas We held the RLC of Texas Annual Meeting/mini-Convention in Austin, TX, this August. The meeting was called to order at 1:30 PM by the RLC Chairman, Sen. Jerry Patterson. He declared a quorum was present and presented some welcome and introductory remarks. Chairman Patterson was one of the key figures in repealing the Texas motorcycle Helmet Laws, and he is a strong advocate of our Second Amendment Right. He told us the story of how the Helmet Law was repealed.
He then turned over the management of the meeting to Mr. Lonnie Brantley. Mr. Brantley requested to make a nomination to fill the now-vacant position of Secretary. Mr. Phil Boyd-Robertson resigned this position due to his relocation out of state. Mr. Brantley nominated David Palmquist. Having received multiple seconds, the nomination was put to a voice vote and it passed by acclamation.
Mr. Brantley then received a nomination for John Reed to assume the position of Treasurer. (The incumbent, Forrest Aston, declined to run for re-election.) Having received multiple seconds, the nomination was put to a voice vote and it passed by acclamation.
Mr. Brantley made a motion for the RLC Texas to create the position of Executive Director. Having received multiple seconds, the nomination was put to a voice vote and it passed by acclamation. Mr. Phillip Palmquist nominated Mr. Brantley to assume the duties of Executive Director. Having received multiple seconds, the nomination was put to a voice vote and it passed by acclamation. Thereafter Mr. Brantley opened the floor to other business. Reports consisted of the following: Mr. Palmquist provided a report on the status of a website for RLC of Texas. Ms. Grace Germany provided a training on becoming a delegate to the state GOP convention.
Mr. Robert Booth provided a report on the formation of a Draft Ron Paul for Senate Committee. He indicated that the purpose of this group is to urge Dr. Paul to seek the Republican nomination for a Senate seat, if and only if a sitting Senator resigns or declines to run for re-election.
We had some announcements: RLC Member, Michael Franks is planning on running for State Rep. in the Houston area, and RLC Chairman, Jerry Patterson is planning on running for Texas Land Commissioner.
Mr. Brantley then turned the managmeent of the meeting over to Sen. Patterson. Sen. Patterson moved that the meeting be adjourned. Having received multiple seconds, the nomination was put to a voice vote and it passed by acclamation. The meeting adjourned at 3:30. Respectfully submitted, Robert R.
